PDS:Two Circles Tangent Tool

This tool calculates the tangent of circles (existing or 'virtual') and draws a line between them. This is commonly used for bags manufacturers.

Icon & Location

Operation

  • Select 'Two Circles Tangent Tool'
  • Click on the first and last point
  • In the dialog set the radius of the circles, and press Ok.

  • Before selecting the tool, create two circles.
  • Click on the first and last circle.

2. Select the first and last contour points
3. Set the 'virtual' circle radius

4. while editing the radius in the dialog, a work chain marks the line that will be created
5. The internal contour was created
6. Just for the example, circles with 10cm and 20cm radius were created, to show how the line was achieved

Point To Circle

7. Original piece
8. Select the contour point, and the circle (while holding the Shift key)
9. An internal contour is created from the point, up to the closest tangent of the circle

Circle To Circle

The internal contour is created by calculating the tangent of both of the circles.
Note: same thing can be done also from circle to button and from button to button.

11. Click the first circle, and then the second (while holding the Shift key)

Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Alt – open Move Point Dialog (In case it is disabled in the preferences).
  • Ctrl – Disregard the snap definition.
  • Shift (2nd click) - Allow selecting an existing circle.
  • . (Period) – Restrain the cursor movement to the X axis (press ESC to exit this mode).
  • .(Period) + Shift - Restrain the cursor movement to the Y axis (press ESC to exit this mode).
