Use the Cut tool to cut a piece along a line into two pieces. The line may have two or more points.
The Seam Dialog is opened automatically (unless its Preference is unchecked).

Operation

  1. Invoke the Cut tool.
  2. Click on points along the line to cut the piece into two pieces.

2. Hold down Shift while clicking to make the point a Curved one
3. A nicely shaped princess cut is formed
4. The piece is divided into two pieces

Cutting A Graded Piece

5. A graded piece is cut
'Align cutting by base size' dialog

6. Yes – all the sizes will be cut according to the line created over the base size
7. No - The cutting point is calculated in proportion to its location to the previous and next grading points

Troubleshooting

When cutting along the base size is not possible (because a size is 'outside' the cutting area), a warning is displayed. Refer to the following example to understand the problem.

10. Click 'No' in the Align Cutting By Base Size dialog

Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Alt – opens the Move Point Dialog (if it is disabled in the Preferences).
  • Ctrl – disregards the Snap definition.
  • Shift – creates a Curved point.
  • Delete – deletes the last point.
  • F2 – opens the Line Direction dialog.
  • . (Period) – limits the cursor movement to the X axis (press ESC to exit this mode).
  • .(Period) + Shift - limits the cursor movement to the Y axis (press ESC to exit this mode).
