PDS:Compare Length
From OptiTexHelpEn
(Redirected from PDS:Compare Length Window)
- Compare length is used to compare lengths between two or more segments.
- Length comparisons are made for all sizes.
- For example, a pattern maker may want to compare the length of the armhole seam with the sleeve seam that is to be set in to the armhole. The total armhole seam equals the length of the back armhole seam plus the length of the front armhole seam. The combined measurement of the front and back armhole seam is then compared to the sleeve seam. See the diagram below.

Operation
- Invoke the "Compare Length" window.
- Select the first segment for comparison and press the plus sign at the bottom left side of the dialog box. (Notice that the segment length for each size displays under the + sign column.)
- Select the segment to compare to the first segment and press the minus sign at the bottom left of the dialog box. (Notice that the segment length for each size displays under the - sign column.)
- Note that when an internal segment is connected to a contour segment, you can select the internal before taking the length. This will avoid the contour length.
- To view the result of the differences in length, look under the "Subtotal" column. (Also available is the compare Ratio column.)
- Note that you can modify your segments and later press the update button to obtain the new lengths.
- Note that you can copy the values to other applications such as Excel. Use the Copy button.
- Click on the Clear button to remove all lengths from the measurement table.
Dialog Explanation
Add (+)/ Subtract (-)
Add / Subtract the selected segment to a new column.
Length Method
Along Contour Line
Add to the column the distance from the first and last point, along all the points and curves.
Along Straight Line
Add to the column the distance from the first and last point, along a direct line.
By X
Add to the column the distance from the first and last point, along the X axis.
By Y
Add to the column the distance from the first and last point, along the Y axis.
Segment Length
Invoke the Segment Length dialog.
Copy
- Choose this option to select values to copy.
- Select columns by bringing the cursor to the top of the column. The cursor will turn to a black arrow. Click to select or drag to select multiple columns.
- After your selection is done, use the copy button to copy the values.
- Now you are ready to paste in any external application such as Excel.
Update Measurement
Choose this option when you want to update the compare length table after you made changes on the compared segments.
Clear
Choose this option to delete all the previous values from the compare length table to start a new measure.
