Knowledge:Export Rhino Models To Iges

From OptiTexHelpEn
Jump to: navigation, search

This article will describe OptiTex recommendations for exporting Iges files from Rhino.

Notes

  • We recommend to have the model located at the world's 0,0,0 point prior to exporting the model.
  • The direction of Z Axis in Rhino (as in other 3D CAD systems) is up/down. In optiTex 3D it is the Y axis which is up/down. You can switch between the Z and the Y during the Import process.

Operation

In order to correctly exchange IGES files between Rhino and Optitex, we'll create a new IGES export type. This type will be used each time one wants to export Rhino model to Iges to use it in OptiTex 3D.

  • File > Save As...
  • Save as type: > IGES (*.igs, *.iges) > Save
Save As window

  • The Iges Export Detailed Options window opens:
    • IGES Tolerance: We recommend not to change this value.
    • IGES Units: OptiTex import supports millimeters, cm, meters, inches and feet
    • The last two check-boxes are up to users decision
  • Click the Edit Types button
Iges Export Detailed Options window

  • In IGES Export Types dialog select New. The following dialog will appear:
  • In the Name field type "OptiTex"
Iges Type Details window

  • Go to Points And Curves tab and set the same configuration as shown in the picture below:
Points And Curves Tab

  • Go to Surfaces tab and set the same configuration as shown below (in Surfaces field you can also use 143 value):
